Another Successful Summer Fete

The 3rd July saw yet another successful and profitable Summer Fete for the League of Friends. We are still awaiting final donations and sponsorships to come in but expect to have raised over £5,000. So it’s a BIG thank you to all who helped organise the event, all those who gave up their time on the day to run the stalls and activities and a BIG thank you to all who came and spent their money at the fete.

A special thank you also to all the local organisations and businesses who made donations, sponsored stalls or who provided goods and services for the event.

The monies raised will be donated towards an ECG machine.

League of Friends on POD at the Palace

The POD at the Palace is an interactive terminal showing Redditch History, Heritage and Community information. It was launched on July 3rd and the League of Friends of Alexandra Hospital have a section under Community Groups. Next time you are passing the Palace Theatre pop in and browse the POD.

New Bookcases

To support the growing sales of Books, Puzzles and Videos new bookcases have been installed in the Coffee Shop opposite the League Of Friends Office.

The bookcases are on wheels and can be closed, locked and left in place outside on normal opening hours.

Don’t forget if you have any unwanted Books, DVD’s, Videos or Puzzles please bring them in and donate them for sale.

Volunteers turn out in force

A large number of League of Friends Volunteers turned out today for a special Coffee Morning to thank them for their help over the last year. Instead of serving in the coffe shop the volunteers were waited upon by Pat Hadley & Jill Smith whilst Volunteer Coordinaters Angela & Caroline served up Tea, Coffee and Cakes.

After a few words of thanks from Pat the volunteers lined up outside the new entrance, partly funded by their effors, for a group phtograph.

As one volunteer remarked, “You get to know the team you work with but it was nice to see so many of the other volunteers from across all aspects of the Leage of Friends activities”

May Newsletter on its way

The League of Friends Newsletter is published quarterly to all members and it contains news of upcoming activities & events as well as reports and photographs of those that have taken place.

The May edition is hot off the press thanks to Bob Beard and will be dropping through your letter box shortly.

Radio Pulse To Close

We are sorry to hear from Radio Pulse that they are going to close down. Unfortunately, whilst the goodwill of volunteers is still there, changes in the way bedside services are provided and the many changes within the hospital has made it difficult to continue to provide the service Radio Pulse has done in the past.

Radio Pulse has been a long established part of hospital life and has provided comfort and entertainment for many patients. Its also allowed individuals to realise a life-long ambition to broadcast as well as providing the first step on the ladder of experience for budding DJs.

The League of Friends is sad to see the service close and acknowledges the volunteers’ contribution to the service the Hospital opened and thanks all who have helped over the years. 60 years of happiness

Congratulations to Norman and Dot Wiley, two of our longest seving coffee shop volunteers who celebrate their diamond wedding this month.

Norman also collects, sorts and sells all the postage stamps donated to us, raising over£2000 in the last 12 months.

We are proud and delighted to have achieved a 5 star food hygiene rating following our recent Environmental Health inspection. This reflects how hard our volunteers work to achieve fantastic levels of service. Well done!!!!

Main Entrance Refurbishment

Progress is being made on the 1st phase of the modernisation of the front entrance. The benefit will be most obvious when the cold winds blow! Work should be completed by Easter.

The second phase will be the re-development of the reception area. We are excited that we will then have a brand new retail and promotion area open in the Autumn, with lots of new and exciting gift ideas in time for the festive season
